High Quality Images – Automatically!

Each day, in a prepress department, you are faced with a very real challenge: that of maintaining the quality of your documents despite the questionable quality of some of the pictures you receive. Production must be on time in an environment that requires greater productivity from its employees.

Binuscan’s Image Processing Machine, or IPM for short is a hot-folder driven image processing solution that is the heart of image production in prepress departments. Its design is to eliminate or greatly reduce manual processing and retouching by automating most of the required enhancement tasks, color management and geometric transformations.

The process begins with incoming image enhancement. A patented technology called RECO Technology gives all images a full color range, optimal color balance; provides them with just the right amount of contrast, saturation and sharpening. Unique RECO settings are prepared for each input source.

Images that have been processed with RECO Technology undergo a histogram transformation, which results in full-range histograms. After a RECO process, the histogram always covers the full range with no gaps in any of the channels. If the original has no information loss (clipped histogram edges) then the resulting image’s histogram edges will contain only what is required for sharpening.

In addition to image enhancement through RECO Technology, the IPM can perform multiple color corrections and color space changes through either proprietary technology or ICC profiles. Proprietary color tables can perform RGB corrections and conversion to CMYK, and ICC profiles can perform conversions to and from any of the RGB, CMYK and grayscale working spaces.
